when i was there, i found better times. (1976,77and1980). alwais when i see pictures like this i remember my afghan friends and all this lovely people i met and then i wanna cry. it was not only a different time, it wa a different world.
Yes, it is a very sad thing. You can still see whispers of that world, what is was before three decades of stupid war. Sometimes you can even see what it could be if the people could be made free.
To me this kid is Afghanistan .
Poor and dirty and scared, doing the wrong things; but also clever, and brave, and beautiful. A young face with old eyes. Such a careful balance, a tiny push one way or the other right now can make him a hero or a monster someday. I fear we are pushing the wrong way.
