Description
I rented the new Tamron 150-600 to see if it's worth the money. This is what it looks like on a D700 at 600mm f/11 on a tripod. Not Nikkor quality by any means, but for a 1/8th the price, I think it's pretty decent. Probably not a good fit if you're looking to shoot indoor sports. And being able to zoom all the way from 150-600 is pretty cool when you're shooting things from the road in areas where public access is a problem.
It's heavy. I could probably shoot it freehand for a couple hours before motion blur became a problem but I do a lot of marksmanship training for work. Tripod is certainly the way to go.
It gets a lot more crisp down around 450mm and below. I think I'm going to go ahead and buy one when things settle down a bit and I'll have more time to shoot.
